Aims and Scope

Faz publishes original short articles in all areas of theoretical linguistics: syntax, semantics, phonology, morphology, pragmatics and the interfaces between them fall within its scope. The journal considers studies that address a theoretical question and argue explicitly for an analysis, as well as experimental or corpus-based studies in which a theoretical proposal is tested. Studies of data from Turkish and the other languages spoken in Türkiye are particularly welcome, although the journal is not restricted to any language or language family.

Authors

Faz addresses researchers at an early stage of their academic careers. The first author of a submitted article must be enrolled in a master's or doctoral programme, or have received a doctorate no more than three years before submission. Supervisors and senior researchers may appear as co-authors.

Format

Faz adopts the format of the short article: an article addresses a single theoretical question, sets out its proposal explicitly and runs to at most 3,000 words, excluding references and appendices. Articles may be written in Turkish or English; every article carries an abstract and keywords in both languages.

Editorial Structure The editorial board of Faz consists of graduate students and other early-career researchers, who may come from any university. The editors carry out the pre-review of articles, select reviewers, oversee the review process and prepare a recommendation on the basis of the reviewer reports. The Advisory Board consists of academics; it guides the editorial board on method, publication ethics and the review process, and takes over the review of an article where a conflict of interest arises. The final decision on an article is taken by the editor-in-chief after consulting the Advisory Board.

Review Process

Articles submitted to Faz first undergo an editorial pre-review, in which their fit with the scope of the journal, its principles of format and its style rules are assessed and a similarity check is carried out. Articles that pass the pre-review are sent, under double-anonymous review, to at least two reviewers, at least one of whom holds a doctorate. Reviewers are expected to write detailed and constructive reports that help the early-career author to develop the work. On the basis of the reviewer reports and the editor's recommendation, and after consulting the Advisory Board, the editor-in-chief decides whether the article is accepted, returned for revision or rejected. The first decision is intended to reach the author within eight weeks of the article passing the pre-review.

Publication Frequency

Faz is published as one volume a year under a continuous publication model: each article accepted and prepared for publication appears in that year's volume without waiting for an issue to be completed.

Open Access and Fees

All articles published in Faz are freely available from the moment of publication. The journal charges authors no fee for the submission, review or publication of an article.
